MAP Circa 2006

I didn't plan to ever post these pictures on MapStyling.com. But yesterday my older sister and I were talking about the past and the subject of these pictures came up. My sister argued that I should post them because they show the diversity of my styling. I argued saying, they are apart of the past.

These pictures were taken in the Spring of 2006 whilst I was living in New York and way before the invention of MapStyling. I took them for a modeling opportunity with ENYCE that never came to fruition . . .

Don't get me wrong I love these pictures. I love that the styling is New York in the early Spring time which is very different from California in early Spring. But, I doubt my, ever, reproducing this look on me. However, for you I would give you the hair, makeup and outfit, if you asked me and paid a small fee. I still own the boots, the sweater, and I wore the jeans until the pockets became unhinged. But again, I refuse to reproduce this look because I like my latest look better (on most days). People ask me to go back to MAP Circa 2006 as if the woman with long straight hair is more beautiful than the woman with kinky hair. To those people I say, "I feel most beautiful today."

In fact, my appearance today resembles the woman of my dreams. The woman of my dreams has hair so long and heavy that it wants to stand but tumbles over. She has a tattoo! Yes, a tattoo on her back of the sun's horizon that reads The Sun Does Rise and Set on My . . . . And she knows every scripture in the Bible so that no human on earth can tell her how God would wish her to behave. Moreover, she has hair unafraid of the rain and vibrant clothes uncommon to any other closet. The woman of my dreams wills to be different and is the woman everyone secretly wants to know.

So, to my Love Interests and Whosoever else it may concern, please appreciate who I am now and stop asking for the woman of my past. If the woman of your dreams looks like her, keep it pushing because this woman doesn't desire to go back in time.

This is an exclusive message for those that have chosen to follow my fashion journey. Love MAP

Black & White & Puppies!

Spring Is In The Air!

Every since a friend of mine had a 80's themed party I've been living in the past. The 90's to be exact. As a teenager I remember borrowing a halter top and a pair of my older sister's baggy jeans and wearing that outfit with a pair of Dr. J's for weeks. Literally, weeks!

Needless to say I am still living in this pair of (recently purchased) men's jeans. I even wore them to the beach on a foggy day with my family and our latest batch of Shih Tzu Pups.

Baggy Jeans make me feel cool . . .

Stylish . . .

& Invincible. I dare you to explore the fashions that you love during this new season.

A Beautiful Mind

Sankofa is an African word symbolized by a bird moving forward but looking back. My life today is best described by this symbol and so are these pictures. I recently moved from the Claremont College area, after two years of study and a six month refusal to move for fear of transition and packing, but on this day I decided to go back (for a visit) and to take pictures in an area that I walked with friends.

I enjoyed my time in Claremont. Here is where I battled daily with my love for both faith and fashion. My fashion sense evolved and so did my faith in humanity, endurance and peace.

The Claremont Colleges, The Press, Mount Baldy, Laughing Buddah and all the other cool places that were my back yard oasis will be missed. However, as I continue to move forward on occassions I will look back.

P.S. It does rain in Southern California

Chinatown

I wore the permanent press out of this dress. I started my day with a meeting in Chinatown, then went over to LA's garment district, then I swung by to visit my sister in Watts, kissed children and then dashed over to Gardena to see one of my girlfriends who insisted that I go to a surprise birthday party for a Rapper that lasted until dawn. Me and my dress were exhausted.

Against my own apprehension me and my head-wrap were well received.

The Rapper grabbed me into a bear hug and said "your face glows, I am so glad you came to my party, you're a different kind of beauty."

Endless Summer

Southern California weather has allowed me to live in denial. If the sun is out and it's hot I can not fully embrace Fall. So, I put on a wrap dress and headed to the beach.

Accessories Only

I am overly infatuated with my necklace. This is my second time being photographed wearing it this summer. My "condition" is very severe, not only have I worn the same necklace but I've also worn it with the same outfit with only a switch in hairstyles. Yes, I am guilty of over loving my necklace.

What do I love so much about this particular necklace? The lime green of course, plus the size, and that the cross detaches so that it can be worn on other necklaces. Oh, yes! It's that fabulous. And for all of the above mentioned reasons I am sure I will be caught wearing it again. -MAP
